Once upon a time, there were some puppies who came from a rather unfortunate situation. I became mother to 4 helpless little Chihuahuas which was by far the most rewarding and important thing I had ever done and something I wouldn't change for the world! I taught them to eat, to play and just to be perfect canine citizens.

Chamaca (that was her full name) was the liveliest of the group. She ate everything in her path and ran the roost. When her siblings went home, she got her vaccinations. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. But for her......she was given a vaccination she never should have had. By 6 months, this developed into epilepsy and allergies to just about everything. She had to be handfed many times a day and also had problems with her legs that required 3 surgeries and ultimately a pin in her leg. So you can see that she was, at only 3 pounds, a very delicate little girl. She required constant help her entire life. Needless to say for all that time, she was still very much my entire world.

Out of necessity for something warm for her to wear and not being able to find anything small enough for her as a puppy, we started to make clothing for her. Out of this naked little girls' need for fashion grew Haute Puppy. We lost Maca on December 30, 2009 to a massive seizure. She is, and will always remain, a huge part of my life and the reason behind Haute Puppy.

In her honor, we have started a collection inspired by some of Maca's favorite dresses, vests and carriers. To keep her memory alive, we donate part of the proceeds of the Maca Collection to River City Chihuahua and Small Dog Rescue, run by some wonderful people who knew, loved and understood her. We love you, Kim!
